BBR held their 10th Annual Hygiene for Humanity Drive last month to support hygiene equality across South Louisiana. The two selected local nonprofits for this year’s drive were Catholic Charities of Acadiana and The Christian Outreach Center of Baton Rouge.
“As a community-driven team, BBR has been proud to spread awareness and collect supplies through our Hygiene for Humanity initiative,” said Emily Burke, CEO of BBR Creative. “We’ve provided thousands of hygiene products to individuals experiencing homelessness in our state for a decade. And now, we were excited to add to that growing number with the hundreds of donations we received within the month of July.”
Since 2014, Hygiene for Humanity has delivered strong results, collecting critically needed products, such as shampoo, deodorant, clothing, grooming tools, and toothbrushes. Individuals from the surrounding communities, family and friends, businesses, and others contributed to be part of BBR’s continuing impact through this drive. Kayla Stansbury, Director of Community Engagement at Catholic Charities of Acadiana, stated how this contribution comes at a “vital time” for their organization. “We have received the exact materials and supplies we have been running low on or no longer had in stock. These donations make such a huge impact for us and in the Acadiana area.” Catholic Charities of Acadiana strives to restore human dignity to individuals experiencing homelessness through their Stella Maris Center. This hygiene facility provides showers, restrooms and laundry facilities to those needing basic hygiene services. The Christian Outreach Center of Baton Rouge is a Christ-centered homeless intervention ministry that provides multiple essential services for the Capitol-area community, including hygiene kits for those in need. “We can’t tell you how much we appreciate BBR doing this for us,” said Dr. Rev. Brian Sleeth, Executive Director at The Christian Outreach Center of Baton Rouge. “Our organization saw a notable increase in donations compared to previous summers because of Hygiene for Humanity, which provided us with the items to distribute in our area. They have been well received and are much appreciated.” BBR’s team extended their reach beyond in-person donation collections through a new digital approach, proving to have a greater impact on the outcome. The chosen nonprofits created custom wish lists through Amazon, which were then promoted through a social media campaign. Through this method, the organizations received support quickly.
