BBR’s Durand Receives Major Illustration Honor

(Lafayette, La.) – BBR is pleased to announce that Senior Art Director Burton Durand is a winner in the 58th Illustration Annual Competition sponsored by Communication Arts (CA), a professional design journal. Published each year in CA, the Illustration Annual showcases the best in design, advertising, photography, illustration, interactive and typographic creative work. Of the nearly 4,000 entries submitted, only 178 projects were selected by a jury of creative professionals.

“Being included in Communication Arts’ Illustration Annual, one of the most prestigious design competitions in the country, was a life goal of mine,” said Durand. “And it’s perfect that the selected art promotes a tasty bit of local culture.”

Durand’s winning submission is the original artwork he created for Lafayette’s Parish Ink in 2016, an illustration entitled “Release the Cracklin.” The hand-drawn typography is a celebration of the local Cajun delicacy and a play on the expression “Release the Kraken.” Parish Ink recently printed a third run of the shirts featuring Durand’s illustration.

“Burt’s a natural talent who’s the natural choice when it comes to celebrating South Louisiana. Parish Ink only works with the best, and this acknowledgement by Communication Arts speaks volumes,” said Bram Johnson, co-owner of Parish Ink.
