Hygiene for Humanity

“Sometimes it’s easy to walk by because we know we can’t change someone’s whole life in a single afternoon. But what we fail to realize is that simple kindness can go a long way toward encouraging someone who is stuck in a desolate place.”

Mike Yankoski

The word “homeless” conjures common images of urban misery – sleeping on park benches, rattling a cup with change or holding up a “will work for” cardboard sign to passing cars. But homelessness is also the working mother who has fled with her children from an abusive relationship, silently praying no one can tell they are living out of her car. It’s the veteran still waiting on much needed treatment from the VA who can’t hold down a steady job and is battling addiction. It’s men, women and yes, children of all ages and races, who find themselves without the safety and security of a permanent home. They are our family – sisters and brothers all – and while we can’t change their lives “in a single afternoon,” we can at least give them the gift of a fresh start.

In that spirit, BBR Creative is hosting its Second Annual Hygiene for Humanity Donation Drive to benefit the homeless in our community. From March 15 through April 15, BBR will be collecting toiletries to donate to Stella Maris Center, a program of Catholic Services of Acadiana that provides laundry and shower facilities to people experiencing homelessness.

Last year thanks to the outpouring of support and donations, Hygiene for Humanity generated 600 lbs. of toiletries and other items that allowed Stella Maris Center to stock its shelves for at least 6 months. This year, we want to double that. Items from the list below can be dropped off at the BBR Office or the Whole Foods Market in Lafayette. Or just give us a call and we’ll pick them up!
