(Lafayette, La.) — Lafayette’s Apex Freight Services is excited to announce the acquisition of the Colorado-based Timberline Freight Services, a company specializing in full and less-than-truckload transportation of refrigerated goods. With this acquisition, Apex dramatically increases its cold-shipping expertise and gains access to the multibillion-dollar frozen food transportation industry. Apex will retain Timberline’s leadership while centralizing operations in its Lafayette headquarters. The company is planning for further growth in the next year, both organically and through additional acquisitions.
Apex Freight Services has been recognized for its impressive growth in a tough economy — the company was named the fastest growing locally in 2012 and 860th overall in the Inc. Magazine 500|5000 list. CEO Tracy Pellerin was recently asked to lead a panel discussion at the industry’s premier annual conference in Las Vegas. Pellerin and the other panelists discussed supply chain risk management, particularly regarding shipper and broker liability, and offered tips on how Apex managed those risks for itself and its customers. Liability has become a major concern in the industry, especially following a recent $58 million verdict against a shipping company and broker following a truck driver’s accident. Pellerin is quickly becoming recognized as an expert in best practices for insurance and safety in the freight transportation industry.
In addition to Apex’s growth and industry leadership, it is investing here in Lafayette. The company has hired several recent graduates from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and is planning to break ground on a 15,000-square-foot corporate office in December. The new office on Hugh Wallis Road will include a fully equiped gym in support of the company’s wellness program.
Apex Freight Services, founded in 2006, specializes in providing safe transportation solutions for the most difficult and hazardous freight — a challenge Pellerin takes very seriously. “Anyone can move standard freight through normal lanes — we specialize in jobs that other companies are unable or unwilling to take on,” Pellerin said. “We also maintain some of the industry’s strictest safety protocols to make sure both our customers and our company are protected.”
