(Lafayette, La.) – For the first time, LPSS is offering a new Centralized Registration Option for the 2012-2013 school year. Registration will now be available on three dates in the coming weeks: July 25, August 1 and August 8, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Lerosen Elementary on 516 E. Pinhook Rd.
The new registration option is designed to offer greater convenience to parents who need to register one or more children at a Lafayette parish school, as well as those needing one or more ancillary services. Registration is only required if a student is transferring to a new school because the family has moved (within the district) or if a student has relocated to the LPSS district from somewhere else. Students who are moving to a new school due to natural progression are not required to register, for example promotion from elementary to middle school or promotion from middle school to high school. School administrators will be on hand to help parents complete the necessary forms and answer any questions.
Regardless of which school their children are zoned for, parents can complete all their registrations at this one central location (accessible via city bus route 70). Representatives from various ancillary services, including 504 and special education, will be present to assist parents with enrollment. The required forms are available for download on the LPSS website (lpssonline.com) or may be picked up beginning Monday, July 23 at any public school or the LPSS Central Office.
“We want to make the registration process as painless and efficient as possible,” said LPSS Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper. “We encourage parents to take advantage of this new offering to get their children registered and ready before the school year begins.”
The documents required for registration are a birth certificate, proof of residence — a current utility bill (electricity/gas/water) in parent/guardian’s name — a social security card (if available), last report card, immunization records, and any other documentation required for ancillary services. For example, special education (IEP), 504 accommodations (IAP), medical needs, legal issues, etc. Please visit the LPSS website or call the Central Office for information on alternative forms of documentation that can be accepted.
The list of ancillary resources available at Centralized Registration includes Student Services, Special Education, 504, ESL, Health Services/ School Nurse, Transportation, Homeless Services, Child Welfare & Attendance, and Child Nutrition/School Lunch.
