LPSS Announces Immersion Taskforce

(Lafayette, La.) Lafayette Parish School system has announced the creation of a taskforce to strengthen, improve and expand the current language immersion pathways in Lafayette.

The first step for the taskforce is to seek public input, via phone and/or online survey. The goal of the survey, according to LPSS Superintendent, Dr. Pat Cooper, is to give interested parents and members of the community an opportunity to voice their opinion on the district’s language immersion program. “We know language immersion is a very popular program here, and we have over 1,000 students currently enrolled, so we want to make sure we’re hearing from everyone as we consider making any changes going forward,” said Cooper.

“We want to make sure that we’ve heard from the public before we propose any changes to the School Board at the end of October,” said language immersion specialist, Nicole Boudreaux. She added that feedback is welcome from all members of the community, not just parents of immersion students.

The phone survey will be conducted starting Tuesday, October 9th. The online survey will be available beginning Wednesday, October 10th and will conclude by end of day on Wednesday, October 17th at LPSS encourages anyone who supports or is interested in the district’s language immersion programs to participate in the survey.
