To get in the Halloween spirit this year, BBR decided to do something to reward our fans for their creativity, and came up with the BBR Inaugural Halloween-Stravaganza Costume Contest. This was a photo contest on our Facebook page, where our fans could submit their Halloween costume pictures for voting. The one catch was, BBR wasn’t going to do the voting, we were leaving it up to our fans. And up for grabs was one of three gift cards, $100 for 3rd place, $200 for 2nd, and $300 1st place.
We opened the fan picture submission period from October 27th through November 1st, to allow ample time for people to have pictures of their costumes taken at parties or trick-or-treating. During the six-day submission period, we received over 100 entries, and had everything from children, adults, animals, group and single costumes. There were ghouls, superheros, decapitated heads, food, Muppets, puppets, Lego people, and even lamps.
The contest voting was from November 2nd until November 7th, with fans able to vote once an hour per entry, for as many entries as they liked. In addition to voting on Facebook, fans were also able to share their favorite entries with their Facebook friends directly from the voting page.
Over the course of the six-day voting period, our fans cast almost 9,500 votes for their favorite costumes. In addition to the countless entries shared on personal Facebook profiles, some of our fans even used BBR’s own fan base to pine for votes, by posting their entries on BBR’s Facebook wall, often times creating conversations between our fans.
Once the voting was over, it was time to identify the top three vote-getting costumes. In 3rd place, with 1,372 votes was Brooke: the Hotdog Zombie, submitted by Candace. In addition to being one of the cutest little undead hotdogs we’ve ever seen (OK, so maybe the only undead hotdog we’ve ever seen), she also seemed to have quite a fan base rooting for her, with almost 20 comments on her entry. Second place is definitely no stranger to competition, as he was a board game. A living, breathing board game — Operation, to be exact. The 2nd place entry, with 1,825 votes was Jeffrey as Operation Man, complete with light-up nose. The picture didn’t convey this, but our only hope was that every time he was poked in the wrong spot with the tweezers, he made the buzzer noise. Check out the Operation Man entry on the costume contest on our Facebook page here.
Now the 1st place costume may be stricken with fear in her picture, but she definitely proved to be more than a helpless damsel in distress, when it comes to rallying friends and fans for votes for her costume. The winner of BBR’s Inaugural Halloween-Stravaganza Costume Contest with 2,084 votes was Little Red Riding Hood with the Big Bad Wolf, submitted by Ashley. Her impressive showing managed to get about 1/5 of all votes cast in the contest. Check out Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf entry on our Facebook page here.
We know our fans enjoyed the chance to be in the spotlight on our Facebook page, and we really had fun designing everything, and interacting with everyone. We’re really looking forward to offering more opportunities for our fans to have rewarding fun with BBR Creative, not just on our Facebook, but on our social media accounts as well, such as our blog, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and Linkedin accounts.
