Aiding Japan Through Design

In the wake of the recent tsunami that hit Japan, I was contacted by Dirty Coast Press out of New Orleans to participate in a group design project to raise money for the relief effort. They asked a group of designers to each come up with a poster to be screen printed and sold. All profits from poster sales will go directly to the NOLA Japan Quake Fund.

Eager to help, I immediately started sketching thumbnail concepts in my free time. Here is the one that stood out most for me:

I went ahead and produced this design — a call-to-action in the form of a giant exclamation mark. The mark is made of key words and the red Japanese sun. I let it evolve as I worked. The final artwork, posted below, is a two-color design that will be screen printed on 11″ x 17″ paper. I hope that my design will help provide some relief to those in need.
